Its official! Snow is flying in Northern Michigan, which of course means it’s time to break out the winter toys. Now is the perfect time to take the snowmobile out of storage, and make sure it’s in top-top shape to rip through the trails. Here are a couple quick tips you can use to make sure you’re riding in style, and not stuck on the trails.
Carry some basic parts for your snowmobile
Check the trunk and engine compartment of your snowmobile. Make sure you have all the essentials, and a good just-in-case set of tools and equipment. You should always carry a spare belt, and spark plugs. Carry some basic tools such as a spark plug wrench, a belt tool, a screw driver, and a few wrenches. Most snowmobiles come with a basic toolkit. Check to make sure that you have the basics and anything you might need for a quick-fix.
Essential Liquids are what motors crave
Always check your oil before you hop on your snowmobile. Even with that, be sure to bring extra oil with you. If possible, you should also bring some extra gas. You can get rear mounted or tunnel mounted tanks which ensure you never run out. As a general rule, if your snowmobile requires some type of liquid to keep you moving, it is helpful to carry a little extra with you.
Tie Down / Ratchet Straps
You should carry a set of ratchet straps with you. If you get stuck or need to be towed for any reason, these can be a real life-saver. You’ll want to carry at least two straps with you.
Duct Tape and Zip Ties
Duct tape and zip ties make a magical combination that have the ability to temporarily solve any issue. These are absolute must-haves to carry with you. If you need to quickly stop a leak or hold something together until you can get off the trail, these tools with not let you down.
